Mumbai’s Asian Heart Institute buys multi-million dollar robot.

August 2011 – The Asian Heart Institute (AHI) in Mumbai, India has acquired the new state-of-the-art da Vinci Si Robotic Surgical System, one of the most expensive medical technology available in the world.AHI is the first hospital in Asia to have this latest da Vinci model that improves visualization with high definition 3D. The daVinci system provides minimally invasive surgical treatment options for urology, cardiology, gynecology and general surgery.

Dr. David B. Samadi, Vice Chairman, Department of Urology, Chief of Robotics and Minimally Invasive Surgery at The Mount Sinai Medical Center, says that the growing use of robotics in countries like India offers patients the same level of technology they could find at home.

He adds, “When a patient decides to travel for surgical treatment, whether from the United States to India or Israel or any other country, it’s essential to make the quality of your treatment, not cost, the most important factor when choosing a surgeon.”
